A young Australian believed he had received a prank phone call from a mate earlier this week, but soon found out he had just been handed an unexpected windfall of $250,000.
Tristan, who is 22 years old and hails from Canberra, found himself checking his phone last Thursday evening as he awaited the arrival of his UberEats delivery. It was then that his telephone started ringing.
Sarah Butler from Oz Lotteries called him to inform him that he had won $250,000.
"I assumed it was just another prank pulled by one of my roommates," Tristan said to Oz Lotteries.
Once he recognized it wasn’t his friend, he dashed down the stairs to his housemate and activated the speakerphone function.
He mentioned, 'My flatmate got up and yelled, then gave me a big hug.'
'None of us knows anybody who has won money like this. It feels unreal.'
Tristan said he would head to a financial advisor before using his winnings to enter the housing market, which brought his mother to tears.
"I don’t wanna screw this up," he stated.
'The goal is a house deposit, that's it. If I play this right, it changes everything.'
The fellow's mum was equally amazed at the fortune her boy had come across and got quite moved thinking about how it would impact his life ahead.
'Mum almost cried when she realised this means I will be able to buy a house,' Tristan said.
'My generation can't get into the housing market. She never thought her son would be able to buy a house.'
Tristan was airlifted to Brisbane for the lottery funds to be directly deposited into his account from the Oz Lotteries Toowong office.
The largest Daily Winners money giveaway took place, and the gentleman from ACT mentioned that his palms were extremely clammy and that he could hardly catch any sleep when contemplating his huge victory while heading north to collect his reward.
