Graduate, 22, Who Lost Both Legs in Tragic Boat Accident Still Struggles With Uncertainty
A graduate with an artistic background and a passion for sports is battling for their life after getting caught in a ferry’s propeller during a voyage in the Bahamas.
Hannah Smith, 22, was on a trip with her best friend on the first day of their holiday when the tragedy happened.
Last week, she tumbled off the edge of a pontoon vessel while it was docking in Nassau.
Hannah, who hails from Memphis, Tennessee, got caught in the ferry’s propellers, resulting in severe injuries such as partial amputation of her legs.
Her father, Marvin, disclosed that she remains in intensive care and is conscious between operations.
However, she remains oblivious to the full severity of her wounds.
'She has been put on such heavy medication, she talks about stuff, but it seems like she’s experiencing hallucinations,' Marvin said to the doctor. Mirror .
Hannah’s mum Tracy added: ‘With the sedations, medications, the trauma, everything, there were also hallucinations, which they tell us is part of coming off sedation.
'So, we haven’t questioned her about [the incident] at all. It’s important for her to concentrate on getting better rather than attempting to recall or relive those events.'
Hannah's folks have initiated a GoFundMe appeal in an effort to assist with covering the significant healthcare expenses.
Honoring his daughter, Marvin portrayed her as a 'scholar, leader, and community advocate'.
He stated: 'Hannah earned top honors with Summa Cum Laude from Miles College, gaining respect and admiration from her classmates, teachers, and members of her sorority.'
Renowned for her commitment to service, scholarly achievements, and empowering those around her, Hannah currently requires the assistance of the community.
'Hannah suffered a tragic injury in an accident that now requires her to undergo numerous surgeries, extensive long-term rehabilitation, and she faces growing medical expenses.'
Rachel, who is Hannah's elder sibling, added: 'Hannah embodies light. Hannah represents love. Hannah is unequivocally Herself.'
'Our younger sibling is quite the handful, yet we couldn't imagine them differently. They are essentially the toughest among us all (They're a fitness enthusiast).'
'We're praying you stay strong and keep fighting for your life, your dreams, and your ambitions.'
'This boating mishap won’t shape your journey through life. We require you to celebrate numerous more birthdays, enjoy plenty of holidays, and gather more life stories.'
Tracy mentioned that her daughter had recently completed graduation and was "only beginning her journey with numerous aspirations."
She added: "What really moved us was something she mentioned amidst everything she had been through. She said prophetically, 'Mommy, we're all spirits wandering about, and God lends us a body.'"
‘Now we have to remain strong for her, so we simply aim to take cues from her and support her however possible—be it emotional, spiritual, or physical assistance, whichever she needs.’
