Mysterious Vanishing: Missing Dad's Shocking Discovery in Lake Where Many Have Perished

A person's remains were recovered from a lake in Georgia during an intense search for a father of five who went missing on Wednesday.

Dustin Valencia The man, aged 43, was reported missing by his spouse after going out on Kayak trip at Lake Lanier. This led to an extensive search operation for the father of five.

Two days afterward, the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office stated that both the fire department and the Department of Natural Resources retrieved a body from the lake; however, they have not made an official identification as of now.

There have been more than 200 fatalities on Lake Lanier over the last 20 years. The body of water has been was named as one of the most dangerous lakes in the United States.

The search and rescue mission for Valencia was initiated on Wednesday evening after his wife reported him missing when he didn't pick their children up from school.

Last spotted getting his car serviced at 1 p.m., Valencia had his spouse start worrying after he failed to collect their kids four hours later. She then located his phone close to the lakeside address.

She arrived at the location, yet Valencia couldn’t be seen anywhere. Law enforcement then began scouring the vicinity to locate the absent father.

The local police force located Valencia's black Honda Accord close to the lakeside and learned that he was out kayaking.

That evening, his air-filled kayak along with the oars was found and informed to the sheriff’s department.

The deputies informed the nearby ABC station, WALB-TV that the seats in the kayak had not been inflated or set up.

A kayak was spotted drifting on the lake, and someone alerted the sheriff’s department about it. Authorities also mentioned that Valencia had not been using a life jacket.

Officials searched Lake Lanier on Wednesday night and Thursday morning but found nothing.

On Friday morning, the sheriff’s office pursued a tip-off and found the remains of an unknown male at a depth of 51 feet underwater.

Members of the community have established an initiative Meal Train To assist the Valencia family with provisions and monetary aid. The description portrayed Valencia as a "dedicated spouse and father of five."

Dillon Taylor, one of Valencia's acquaintances, informed WALB-TV that during the search, he mentioned that should their circumstances have been swapped, the family would be actively participating at the forefront.

Even though the individual retrieved by the sheriff’s office has not been formally identified, this incident represents yet another sorrow on Lake Lanier.

In May last year, 73-year-old Matthew Mayo tragically drowned when he was out fishing with his spouse on a bass boat.

The startling demise garnered nationwide coverage and led to a feature piece in Time magazine pondering if the lake might be 'possessed by spirits.'

In 2023, there were 13 recorded fatal drownings, which was the highest amount in comparison to other Georgia lakes, according to the Department of Natural Resources .

The second largest number of drowning incidents occurred at Lake Allatoona, with just three cases documented.

In the last 20 years, there have been over 200 fatalities on Lake Lanier. It was named as one of the most dangerous US lakes by Islands.com alongside Lake Michigan, Lake Superior, Lake Erie, and Lake Piru.

reached out to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office for an update on Valencia's case but didn't immediately hear back.
